Arenc, Dunes

This artwork was produced using an AI software (OpenAI) after a photography taken in the Arenc neighborhood in Marseille. The subject of gentrification was explored through this series of pictures questioning the need of constructing new buildings, the cycle construction/deconstruction, and revisiting the history of industrial architecture compiled onto the pool of images that the machine can find in its own stock made by humans.

Mezli Vega Osorno is an artist, researcher and curator. Since 2022 she is in residency at Le Couvent, Marseille. She obtained her PhD in photography from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie and the Aix-Marseille Université in 2020. That same year, was the recipient of a photographic research grant from the Institut Français, Dos Mares and the FIFV and went to Valparaiso (Chili) for a month. She worked as a curator in Galeria 184 in Ensenada, Mexico, organising alogside Enrique Botello an exhibition titled "Habitar mundos", offering artists to experiment with new forms of exhibiting their photographic projects.
