Palmetto

In the botanical series, an ongoing body of work Isabelle composes complex, precise ink drawings entwining freely different decorative art selements, vases, textiles, sculptures from different eras and styles. Each element is carefully chosen through herresearches. The ink drawings are comparable to joyous puzzles filled with a riot of luxurious motifs taken from historical textiles as well as imagined patterns, creating a maximalist collector's utopia.

Isabelle Hayman (B. 1969) is a French artist based in London. She trained as a print textile designer followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Paris. She has extensive experience in textiles and spent time working in Java. Childhood connection to Western Africa and travels deeply inform her work. Her background in textiles, decorative arts well as collecting vintage books and textiles are important elements of her creative process. Isabelle's work can be viewed through the lens of her botanical series and portraits of varied felinity.
